Hebrew Language
Hebrew is taught as a living language and is integrated into all aspects of the Jewish Studies curriculum. The fourth grade emphasis is to further develop comprehension in Hebrew reading and to strengthen independent reading skills.

Jewish History/Israel
Jewish history is integrated throughout the year in all areas of the Jewish Studies curriculum. In addition, beginning in fourth grade, history is taught more formally. In fourth grade the subject matter covered is Modern Jewish History. The Israel Curriculum is taught through holidays, Hebrew, Jewish life and observances and through sacred texts.

Sacred Texts
The curriculum stresses instruction in, and understanding of, ethics, morals and values through intensive exposure to classical Jewish text. In all grades Parashat Hashavua (the weekly Torah portion) is discussed. In the fourth grade students receive Tikkunim (Torah reading preparation books) On Monday or Thursday morning, depending on the branch, the children conduct a Shaharit/Torah reading service. The Torah readers are our fourth and/or fifth graders and the services are lead by the same classes. Children also serve as gabba'im (Torah assistants) and Hagbah/Gelila (Torah dressers). Friday afternoons the older children run Kabbalat Shabbat services.
