Purim at Perelman

Purim is an extra special time at Perelman. As they learned the story of Mordechai and Esther, students took part in joyful celebrations with carnival games, performances, dress-up days, and of course, making delicious hamantaschen

Purim embodies the duality of joy and resilience in the face of adversity so essential to Jewish life – and this year is filled with mixed emotions as we continue to process the events in Israel.

In that spirit, students celebrated the holiday by finding deeper meaning and engagement in our timeless texts and traditions including: designing, writing, and performing puppet shows and dramatic interpretations of the Purim story; exploring Cain’s Arcade — a homemade wonderland of arcade games created by the third graders in our Horowitz Center for Innovation and Imagination, inspired by the documentary of the same name; learning about and analyzing the concept of “venahafochu,” the Purim idea of turning everything on its head; decorating their own groggers, masks, and crowns, baking delicious hamantaschen and creating mishloach manot (gifts of food and drink) packages for each other, and fifth graders taking on a special leadership role and reading the Megillah in Hebrew for the whole school!

From our Perelman family to yours, we hope you have a joyful and meaningful Purim.
