5th grade students pitch prototypes to “sharks” during Shark Tank Project

During an integrated project between general studies and makerspace, fifth grade students were challenged to use the engineering process to define a school-related problem, brainstorm inventions to solve it, and design, build, and resolve bugs to perfect their prototype. The project culminated with them pitching and presenting their products to a panel of “sharks” in the Shark Tank, including Mitchell Daar, other administrators, and Perelman board members.

Creative student inventions included a system of signing in and out recess equipment with a coded a system that scans and recognizes each piece of equipment; a functioning desk extender that connects to a desk to expand workspace; and a robot students programed to fix lines on a gymnasium floor.

Our innovative students are learning skills that uniquely prepare them to succeed in the classroom, middle school, and beyond.
