3rd Grade Visits the Philadelphia Orchestra

Our 3rd grade students took a field trip to the Philadelphia Orchestra! In advance of the trip, students learned about orchestras, the conductor, the concertmaster, orchestra families, and specific instruments during music class. They also studied the specific pieces that would be performed, including who composed them, aspects of form, dynamics, texture, and cultural context. During the concert, students applied their knowledge to identify compositions and composers they had been studying while gaining hands-on exposure to the musical arts!
