Students in 4th grade began a social studies unit on Indigenous People of Pennsylvania with a visit from Lenape Chief Barbary Bluejay, who discussed Lenape culture in both the historical and modern context. At the conclusion of her visit, students had the opportunity to build their own “Hoopsticks,” which are used in many traditional Lenape games.
As part of their studies, students will conduct primary and secondary research of Lenape texts, the findings of which they will present to their classmates. Students will also be taking a trip to visit the Churchville Nature Center where they will apply their knowledge from this unit as they participate in the Lenape Village program.
Our students have relentless curiosity and rather than simply providing answers, our faculty guides students throughout their exploration.
