Local Police Officer Visits First Grade Students as Part of Social Studies Unit
First grade students were treated to a special visit from local police officer, Officer Swain. They have been studying rules and laws during their first social studies unit and used their newfound knowledge to ask Officer Swain related questions during his visit.
In addition to discussing rules, laws, and how they relate to his job, Officer Swain spoke to students about community helpers, how to respond if lost, and the danger of strangers. After the conversation, each student had the opportunity to sit in his police car! Our students learn to be curious thinkers as our teachers provide unique, real-world opportunities for our students to feel empowered in their learning.
