Second Grade Students Study Family History and Immigration
Second grade students delved into genealogical research by studying their own family history as part of their social studies immigration unit.
Students learned about their family’s history by conducting interviews with their grandparents, after which they created their own family trees, wrote essays about their family history and descent, and created individualized paper “immigration dolls” dressed from their country of origin. The conversations also gave them an opportunity to spark a conversation with those from a different generation and reinforced the importance of the Jewish value of respecting elders.
Our students are inquisitive and are encouraged to ask questions towards discovery to make their own connections and uncover new information.
